Conference on Global Health: Chicago – China: Collaborations in Medicine

September 16, 2010

The University of Chicago Conference on Global Health brought together medical professionals from Chicago and their counterparts in China to discuss their recent, and ongoing, collaborations in health and medicine. Among the collaborations reviewed were joint projects in transplantation science, medical education, genetics and genomics, bioinformatics, and cancer pathogenesis. The event itself was a major success, honored by the attendance of high-level participants from Chinese academia which included, among others, the President of China Medical University, the Dean of Health Sciences from Wuhan University, and Vice-President of Peking University Health Sciences Center. Following the conference, Drs. Renslow Sherer and Scott Stern from the University of Chicago also paid successful visits to a number of local medical universities – including Peking University and Capital Medical University – that may result in opportunities for much closer inter-university collaboration in the future.

Organizers: Ka Yee Lee (Department of Chemistry), J. Michael Millis (Department of Surgery), Olufunmilayo Olopade (Department of Medicine and Human Genetics), and Renslow Sherer (Department of Medicine), with the participation of members of Project HOPE Shanghai, Beijing University, Hong Kong University, Peking Union Medical College, China Medical Board, and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
