The University of Chicago Alumni Association and the UChicago Center in Beijing hosted a special event on the evening of Monday, March 23, 2015. University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer and noted alumnus Dr. Justin Yifu Lin discussed global economics and politics–and touched on the value of a UChicago education–in front of a large audience. Attendees, including alumni, friends of the University, scholars, professionals, and newly admitted students, engaged with President Zimmer and Dr. Lin in a long question-and-answer session after the initial discussion, putting forth queries about topics such as the Sino-American economic relationship, the global environment, China-Africa relations, and the future of governance in China.
Dr. Justin Yifu Lin, who received a PhD in Economics from UChicago in 1986, is Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and Honorary Dean and Professor, National School of Development (NSD), Peking University.
Robert Zimmer is the thirteenth president of the University of Chicago, and served as a Professor of Mathematics and an administrator at UChicago for over two decades before his appointment as President. As President of the University, he serves as Chair of the Board of Governors of Argonne National Laboratory; Chair of the Board of Directors of Fermi Research Alliance LLC, the operator of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory; and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Marine Biological Laboratory.
