The University of Chicago Center in Beijing creates a base for University of Chicago faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates in China, serves as a gathering space for alumni throughout Asia, and acts as a resource for Chinese researchers and students. To support the educational efforts of students and with the approval of the UChicago leadership, the University of Chicago Center in Beijing is open for student study use by appointment between the hours of 10am to 6pm, Monday to Friday (excluding national holidays). In compliance with the pandemic preventive policy and protocol of the University and local government, we require all students to wear face masks and keep a social distance of 6 feet (1.83 meters) when present at the Center.
All currently registered students, undergraduate and graduate, are eligible to apply for space (cubicle, desk or lecture rooms) for individual or group study purposes at the Center. Please email the Center’s Program Coordinator, Adrian Aldana (firstname.lastname@example.org), for more information.
Due to the ongoing need to limit the number of people in our space in accordance with health and safety protocols, capacity is limited. The Center may not be able to satisfy all of the requests for certain time or days. Priority will be given to space requested by 1) program or unit leadership, 2) study groups of up to 4 participants, and 3) individual study. Only once you have received confirmation for your application will you be allowed to visit the Center. Please allow for sufficient time between your initial request and your intended date of visit, as application volumes may be high. We, therefore, recommend you start the application process once you know your schedule. There may be certain dates when the Center cannot accommodate requests because it is pre-booked for another event or activity.
As a prerequisite, all students planning to use the center spaces should complete the University's online COVID-19 Safety Training and COVID-19 Health Requirements Affirmation (both located at https://goforward.uchicago.edu/health-requirements/#training) and the Center in Beijing Attestation Form (https://uchicago.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3DUCjR3qz7tF3qR).
We understand this is an uncertain and challenging time for our students and their families, the Center in Beijing will try our best to support you and we also appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making this process smooth and efficient. We will continue to monitor the pandemic situation, local and University safety policies, to adjust our facility planning, on-site safety precautions and access hours, etc. If you have any questions, please contact Adrian at email@example.com.
