October 14 and 15 the Center in Beijing welcomed the 4th Annual 21st Century Anthropology Forum.  The Forum was organized by the Renmin University of China Institute for Anthropological Research and the Renmin University National Development and Strategy Research Institute.  Prof. Zhao Xudong, Director of the Renmin University Anthropology Institute, introduced a theme for this year's Forum: A Reciprocal Anthropology in Light of the Belt and Road Initiative(一带一路视野中的互惠人类学).  Thirty-seven senior researchers and faculty from universities and institutes throughout China and beyond attended and presented papers on this theme.  The presentations were highly diverse and reflected the theoretical and ethnographic energy characteristic of the Chinese field of social and cultural anthropology research.  In addition to invited faculty participants, the Forum attracted a large audience of enthusiastic and engaged Beijing anthropologists, including faculty, post-doctoral researchers, and graduate students.  The event drew not only from many Beijing universities and institutes, but also from academic units in Chongqing, Guangzhou, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Kunming, Nanjing, Nanning, and Zhejiang; there were also participants from  Copenhagen, Tokyo, and Wisconsin.  Judith Farquhar represented the Center and the Anthropology Department of the University of Chicago with a presentation at the Forum.  More than 100 participants attended the event.
