On Saturday, July 28, the third event in a series called “Dialogue with Distinguished Alum” organized by the University of Chicago Beijing Alumni Club presented an interesting dialogue between alum Dave Chen, MBA’00 and Peng Xue, Founder and CEO of Shansong Delivery Service.

Adam Sun, MBA’98, president of the UChicago Beijing Alumni Club welcomed the audience and introduced the speakers to stage.  Mr. Dave Chen shared with over 60 alumni and friends on his personal experience since graduating from Booth, including his work in the U.S., returning to China to start the highly successful multi-million dollar enterprise China Century, and his most recent entrepreneurial effort, Oceanpine Capital that provides long-term capital and professional value-added services to high-growth enterprises and start-up companies.

Shansong (meaning “flash delivery”) Delivery Service, a successful investment Oceanpine Capital has made, has emerged as a top choice for businesses and individuals when they need the most speedy, same-day courier service within a city.  Mr. Peng Xue leads a team in creating this household name.  He generously shared with the audience his failure stories and lessons learned before he finally erected Shansong.

In addition to senior alums who work in different industries, several UChicago college students and newly admitted students also joined the event, raising interesting questions to the two accomplished entrepreneurs on career and life choices.  Dave Chen emphasized that the education he received at UChicago on critical thinking and independent judgement based on quantitative evidence has since been his principle in running business and growing to be a well-rounded individual.
