Eswar Prasad: The Renminbi’s Role in Global Finance

On August 27, Professor Eswar Prasad launched the Chinese translation of his award-winning book The Dollar Trap: How the U.S. Dollar Tightened Its Grip on Global Finance. The talk covered the Renminbi’s role in global finance and its prospects for becoming a reserve currency.

Professor Eswar Prasad, Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy at Cornell University, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and former head of the IMF’s China division, received his PHD in Economics from the University of Chicago.  Professor Prasad has testified before the Senate Finance Committee, the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services and the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. His op-ed articles on China have appeared in the Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
