China contributes more international students to the University of Chicago than any other country. To ease their transition to the University, admitted students from China joined in an annual tradition and came to the 2013 Send-Off Party in Beijing at the Center. In an informal setting alongside incoming and current students, parents, and alumni, heard about the ins and outs of the University and Hyde Park from those who know it best. Hosted by the Alumni Association and the local UChicago community, new students and their families were encouraged to attend. This activity is part of a worldwide set of Send-Offs.
After remarks from distinguished Beijing alumni, incoming students and their families enjoyed the chance to meet fellow incoming and current students, in addition to alumni. Attendees learned more about adjusting to life in Chicago and find out about campus opportunities and activities, including dormitory life, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), intramural sports and volunteer opportunities.
