Join the IOP as we welcome U.S. Ambassador to China and former Governor of Iowa Terry Branstad for a conversation on the COVID-19 pandemic and leadership in times of crisis. Dr. Elizabeth Economy, C.V. Starr Senior Fellow and Director, Asia Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, will moderate the discussion and will explore the role of U.S. diplomacy during the COVID-19 outbreak, and Ambassador Branstad’s advice for careers in public office and leadership roles.
Before his appointment in 2016, Ambassador Branstad was the longest-serving governor of Iowa, winning election to six terms in office. During his tenure, he led Iowa through the farm crisis of the 1980s and saw the state recover from one of its worst economic downturns to achieve record-low unemployment rates.
Bringing more than 40 years in public service, Ambassador Branstad comes to the IOP to provide his observations on the qualities and leadership approaches that enable public servants to navigate through times of crisis.
