On March 22, the Center in Beijing hosted a reception in collaboration with the Office of College Admissions to welcome local students that had been accepted to the College's Class of 2018. The event provided an opportunity for newly admitted students to meet each other, and for the students and their parents to get answers to their questions about enrolling at UChicago and preparing for college life in America. Attendees came from high schools throughout Beijing and wider China.
The students and their families were greeted with English and Chinese welcome speeches from Center in Beijing administrators Beth Bader and Ji Yuan, and also took in a presentation on next steps for students planning to attend the University this autumn. Recent alumni Colin Lethem, AB'13, and Dennell Reynolds, AB'11 and a program coordinator at the Center in Beijing, spoke to the assembled students about their experiences at UChicago. A video featuring commentary and advice in Mandarin by current Chinese students at the University was shown. The admitted students and their families then enjoyed refreshments and a tour of the Center.
